About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 hour transit visa. Do I have to stay the full 144 hours

I am flying from Melbourne to Beijing. I need to visit Quyang in Hebei for two nights then go to South Korea.
the 72 hour free transit is too short but I am not need the full 144 hour free transit. Can i leave for South Korea before the end of 144 hours?

144 hours is just the maximum, you can leave earlier if you wish. Penalty is just for an overstay
