About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 hour free transit. How about if I fly from LAX to Beijing.

Stay for 6 days. Then fly from Beijing to Taiwan. Then Taiwan to LAX. All non-stop flights. Will I qualify for 144 hour free transit?

How about instead of Taiwan I go to Thailand? Non-stop flight too. Will I qualify for 144 hour free transit?

Both of these are fine, however you need to do your math: a visa is $140 and good for 10 years, so you'll need to consider whether the price for the cheaper ticket plus visa fee is higher than the TWOV-compliant flights. If the former is cheaper, then it's a no-brainer to get the visa. I get that you want the most bang for your buck but you should not be deterred by the visa requirement if it means significant savings on flights.

I love my 10 year visa, having the visa also allows you to travel outside Beijing while transit without visa would not allow. Plus no need to stop at the transit without visa desk if you have it.

How come the chinese consulate embassy page doesn't say anything about the 144 hour free transit? It only mentions the 72 hour free transit.
