Im flying from the UK to Tokyo for 6 days then flying to Beijing for 3 days then returning to the UK, is this allowed with the 72 free transit pass

It will be eligible for 144 hours transit without visa, as long as your Beijing to UK flight is non-stop (or at least does not stop in Japan or China).
