It will be okay as long as your travel route is Kuala Lumpur-Shanghai-Manila. No need to worry.

Thanks! I’m just a little bit nervous. Won’t the immigration officer check that? Like if I decide to fly back to KL after being granted the transit visa. I’m just scared that they will check and not allow me to board the plane.

Don't even think of trying to deceive Chinese immigration. You are very likely to be caught, and this will result in detention, a fine and a ban from visiting China in the future. Don't do it.

Rob is right. Immigration is not stupid and your arrival AND departure destinations are recorded in the system unlike most countries. Deceitful travelers will earn a 5-year ban of using TWOVs of any kind and may have problems with their visa applications. Why not get a multi-year, multi-entry visa like any other good Canadians instead?
