About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

13 hours layover in shanghai. can we visit the city?

Hello,
i've been reading that lately they don't allow anymore people to visit the city on short (well not so short!!) layover and ask them to go to the transit section and wait on their flight.
If we book a private tour would they let us go?
arriving at 5am and leaving at 6pm
Thank you

Gigi, if you are eligible for the 24h twov in Shanghai, leaving the airport without a visa is at the immigration officer's discretion. In some cases, however, people were let in when they showed their hotel booking confirmations. You are advised to apply for a visa beforehand, which can guarantee the entry.

Thank you Alice for your prompt answer. I would like to book a tour with a travel agency. Do you think it will make the trick?
Also, applying for a visa before hand, is it through the Chinese consulat ? Thanks

Tours with travel agencies do not work and people have lost their deposits before. If you want a 10-year visa you either need a different itinerary (as consulates do not accept applications that they deem you could travel without a visa) or find a travel agency which will handle all the details for an extra fee.
