About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need to apply visa for layover at Beiijing?

My boss is UK passport holder. His ticket is--- Siem Reap / via Bangkok / to Beijing (stay 24 hours or 72 hours ) / via Hong Kong / to Siem Reap.
