About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Two different cities same country?

US passport holder. Is it possible to fly into Shanghai from Chaing Mai and then fly back from Shanghai to Bangkok. Just seeing if it counted if it was two different regions of the same country.

That's Thailand-Shanghai-Thailand and it definitely does not qualify for transit without visa.

When they refer to regions they are referring to Hong Kong and Macau which are special administrative regions of china
