Cancelling Residence Permit

Hi,

I am moving from Beijing to Hong Kong next month.

My last day is June 13, and will be on paid vacation until June 27.
My company informed me they will cancel my work permit around June 27.
However, I am planning to move to Hong Kong around June 15, so my question is do I physically need to be in Beijing when they cancel my work permit? I understand I need to cancel my residence permit also, is this something my company can do without my physical passport?

Once I move to Hong Kong I need to apply for new M work visa, and want to make sure my departure in Beijing is processed smoothly.

Thanks!

Tim

You don't need to be physically in Beijing when your company cancels your work permit. As for the residence permit, I do think it need to be done with your passport. However, if you leave before your residence permit expires, and then apply for a new visa after the residence permit expires, it will be fine. You don't have to cancel the residence permit.

Great, thanks so much for the response. This sounds much more reasonable.
My residence permit will expire in November, so I will just wait until then.

I assume that with a valid residence permit I will still be able to get into China from Hong Kong without any problems, correct?
