What type of visa should I apply for to visit the area? Thank you.

Hi, a tourist L type will be fine for that visit in Guangzhou.

If you fly from country A to country B with a 64h transit in Guangzhou, you´re fine for the 72h twov if you fly on an US passport.
There´s no need to apply for a visa.
