About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Melbourne to shanghai. Are we permitted the 144 hr visa ?

We are travelling to shanghai on Tuesday ,with a change of planes in Hong Kong,we are staying in shanghai for three nights then flying to Hong Kong for four nights then travelling back to Melbourne.

If you would travel like Australia-HK-Shanghai-HK-Australia, you cannot use the 144 hr free transit because it's not a transit at all.
