About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Could he able to obtain 144 hrs.Visa?

American man would like to go to Beijing for 5 days and then he will go to US .
He bought return Air ticket (BKK-PEK-US-PEK-BKK). Is it OK for him to get 144 hrs free transit?
