About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

240 hrs visa free

I'm a US Citizen and going to China for 10 days. My agency told me that I have to apply but when I googled it, don't need it. From SFO to Beijing, Xian, Shanghai back. Confused? Anyone please. Thanks

Actually, if your itinerary is:

US - mainland China -US

In that case you need a visa because both of your immediate points, before and after mainland China are located in a single country - US.

In order to make your itinerary eligible you have to create an itinerary that has immediate points in two different countries or eligible territories, for example:

US - mainland China - Canada
US - mainland China - Hong Kong
US - South Korea - mainland China - US

As you can see there are multitude of different options, but the essence is that the immediate points before and after mainland China are located in two different countries or eligible territories. Hope this helps.
