About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

multiple cities?

Does the flight need to be direct? I would like to transit through Chengdu, but what if there is a connecting flight through another city?

For example:

Japan --> Shanghai (do not leave airport) --> Chengdu (72 hours in Chengdu)
Chengdu --> Shanghai (do not leave airport) --> United States

Would I need a Visa

You would need a visa. If you have more than one stop in China you are limited to 24 hours transit without visa.
