About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, I am flying to from Canada to Japan and will have a stopover at Shanghai, visa-free in shanghai?

Stopover in Shanghai for at least 10 hours and would like to look at the city. Would I need a visa to explore or will I need entry permit? (Never travelled before so I am unsure).
*can this qualify and use the 72 hour free transit?
Thanks

You can enjoy 24 hr direct transit in Shanghai. If you can show your hotel booking confirmations, maybe you can leave the airport to look at the city.

Stops of under 24 hours are not eligible for the 72 hour transit without visa. The odds of you being able to leave the airport are very slim in under 12 hours without a hotel reservation.
