Hi, over stayed for two years

my relative has been staying illegally for two years after his study visa expired and he could not renew the visa due to financial problems with tuition. Is there a way to get him back home safely?

Your relative should report the situation to the local police station, and then pay the fine CNY500 per day after overstaying; the capped amount won’t exceed CNY10,000 or accept other penalties. Afterwards, apply for an exit pass to leave China.

Thanks for the information. is it possible to pay the fine at the Chinese consulate in my country instead of paying the fine at the police station? and also do students pay CNY10 000 and not CNY5000 fine?

You cannot pay the fine at the Chinese consulate in your country, you should do that at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within China. You penalty won't exceed CNY10,000 in total.
