About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Am I eligible?I have a US passport and I am currently in Bangkok.

Can I buy a one-way ticket to Shanghai and stay for 3 days and then buy another one-way ticket from Shanghai to go to Vietnam,

You have to buy the one-way ticket to Vietnam in advance to benefit from the 144h twov in Shanghai.
Then you´re fine with the transit.
