visit go to third country and return. first visit on tourist visa second on 72 hour permi ok?

i will arrive in chengdu on a single entry tourist L from new zealand. fly to tokyo for three days then fly back to chengdu before flying back to new zealand the next day. On my return from tokyo can I use the 72 hour free transit or do i need to apply for a double entry tourist L? My first trip will be for 5 days
