Hi! Can I leave the Airport?

I am a Canadian citizian that is flying to Australia with a 14 hour layover in Shanghai. I was wondering if I can leave the airport or do I need a visa?

Lois, if you can show them your hotel booking confirmations in Shanghai, you could leave the airport then.
