About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Single entry visa + 72h transit

I’m travelling to China on a single entry visa but wanted to visit Thailand during this trip. Is it possible to enter China on free transit for 72 hours - go to Thailand - and then come back to China using this single entry visa?
