About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit
our route is US-HongKong-Shanghai-US. Planning to stay 3 days in Shanghai, do we need a visa?

No. Wendolyn, you don't need to apply for it, you can enjoy 144 hr free transit in Shanghai by traveling like that.
