144 hr visa free Beijing transit

We are wanting to stay in Beijing area while flying from Mumbai to BJ on Singapore Air and then to Denver on United after 4 days. We are US Citizens holding US Passports.
We have a 1 way flight from Mumbai to BJ and 4 days later, another 1 way flight to Denver, essentially 2 seperate tickets.
Do we qualify for the 144 hr visa free transit, if we plan to stay only in Beijing area?
Ho do we convey this to Singapore Air in Mumbai so as to not have any issues while boarding the flight without Chinese visa?

Yeah, you can utilize the 144h visa waiver. When you check in at the departing place, you may inform them of your layover in BJ and it is also needed to tell the air crew onboard. Before landing, you need to fill in the Arrival/Depature Card, which will be used to apply for a stay permit at PEK. Then you will enjoy 4 days in BJ. By the way, the separate tickets will do, as long as you have been provided with dedicated seat.
