About:China Visa Exemption

Visa. I am travelling to Manila from Canada.

I have a layover of 14 hrs in Shanghai. Do I need a visa to stay in a hotel which is just adjacent to Shanghai Airport.

Someone said that "leaving the Shanghai airport is no longer possible if your layover is less than 24 hours regardless of nationality. This has been enforced since early February 2018 and many people were caught off guard because there haven't been any official announcements whatsoever." So, maybe you need to apply for a visa in advance.
