7-hour layover in Shanghai

I hold Philippine Passport and my spouse has Thailand passport. We're coming from USA to Thailand. Our trip will be USA --> Shanghai (7-hour layover) --> Thailand, then Thailand --> Shanghai (4-hour layover) --> USA. Do we need a visa even if we're not leaving the airport? We plan to stay inside just shop/walk/eat in the area.

Thanks!

Filipinos do not need visas, however Thais have faced scrutinies from the airlines in the past. You need to call the immigration office to find out what the latest requirements are.
