About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

British Traveler transit through SH

Would it be possible to obtain entry to China for the 72h free transit layover flying from Madrid to Phillippines via Shanghai? The airline tickets will be from different carriers. If not, would the 24h direct transit be applicable?

Madrid to Shanghai to to Phillippines is ok for the 144/72 hour TWOV as long as you don't have another stop in mainland china. Bring a copy of the other airline itin in case they want to see it. Just be aware if the stop is under 24 hours they may not let you leave the airport if you don't have a hotel reservation. Seems to be something new recetly.
