About:Visa on Arrival

British citizen who was born in Turkey

I’m at the border to obtain the visa for Shenzhen, I’m British citizen and they’re refusing my visa because I was born in Turkey. Has anyone else experience something similar or knows something about this? I flies here to attend a fair and I’m shocked from what they’re saying

It is such an unfortunate situation and I am personally sorry to hear that you have encounter such an obstacle. In any case, I have a solution for you if you are willing to make something creative. This is called 240 hour visa free transit. You will take a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou in Shenzhen or to Nansha in Guangzhou. Before your departure from Hong Kong you will buy a ferry ticket from Shekou (Shenzhen) to Macau. Like this, you will have an itinerary that will look exactly like this: Hong Kong - mainland China - Macau. This is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and you are allowed to visit much wider area compared to Shenzhen visa. You should just have in mind that you will really have to take that ferry from Shekou to Macau in order to be within the rules. Hope this information will reach you soon, so that you can plan your visit to Shenzhen and maybe even to some other places within mainland China. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately my partner is already back. That was a really bad experience for him and totally unfair as there’s nowhere information, neither on the embassy of China that the rules are changing just because he was born in Turkey, I’ve never heard that before and we travel a lot. Thank you though so much for your help, I’m sure it will help someone else
