About:China Transit Visa

My wife and I are US citizens disembarking from a Princess Cruise ship on March 25 2018 and directly

proceeding to Pudong airport for our return flight home to USA via Hong Kong connection. Will we need any type of visa?

Jesse, do you mean you will travel like USA-Shanghai-HK-USA? If yes, you don't need to apply for a visa for that beforehand.

Thank you for your response. We will be on a cruise visiting various ports originating in Singapore with a final port in Shanghai. One of the port stops is Hong Kong. Is there a 72 hour free circumstance for us from the port to Pudong?

If you will go to a third country or region different from the last port you come from after transiting in Shanghai, you can use the free transit policy then.
