Mexican citizen on a cruise disembarking in Beijing

I am a Mexican citizen on a cruise from Tokyo to Beijing. I plan to stay for about 5 days in Beijing and fly to San Francisco. Can I use the 144 hour exemption? Also my friends will disembark in Shanghai and will be staying in Shanghai for 4-5 days also. Can we use the 144 hour visa exemption

In case that you are all Mexican citizens, you are all eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing/Shanghai areas in principle. To be definitely allowed, your itinerary has to fulfill the following conditions:

- Your cruise from Japan to Tianjin/Beijing should not have its last port of call, immediately before Tianjin/Beijing, in mainland China
- Your flight from Beijing to San Francisco should not have any additional flight within mainland China and in the country where your cruise will have its last port of call, immediately before Tianjin/Beijing

Also, you should be aware that you cannot travel to your friends in Shanghai and they cannot travel in Beijing. You are entitled to remain within just one transit area.

Everything that is valid for you is also valid for your friends and you should just replace Tianjin/Beijing with Shanghai.

If all the above mentioned conditions are fulfilled, you are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.
