72 hour transit visa with passport valid for 5 months

Hello, I hold a German passport that expires 5 months after my planned trip. I plan to fly from Canada to Beijing, stay for less than 72 hours, then continue on to Japan and after a few days there fly back to Canada. Will I be granted the 72h free transit at the airport in Beijing?

You can get 144-hour transit in Beijing as long as your Canada-Beijing flight is nonstop and your passport is valid for more than 3 months.
