About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

Americans looking to apply for visas at a China embassy in the US.

We are assigned to the Washington D.C. embassy, but live much closer to the LA embassy. We are going in person to apply for visas. Do we HAVE to go to our assigned embassy (Washington D.C.), or can we go in person to the LA office?
