Where to apply for working Z type- Canadian under studying X type.

Hi,

I am Canadian living in China with an ongoing study X type.
I have found a job here and they are going to begin the application process (to get the Work permit first).

My study X type ends end of March 2018: will I need to get out of China to apply for the Visa?
If yes, do i need to get back to Canada or is there another closer country that would provide such service (I have heard it is now impssible to do so in HK)?
