About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Belgium - Shanghai - Hong Kong - Belgium

We are planning on traveling from Belgium to Shanghai, staying 3 days (less than 72 hours), then flying from Shanghai to Hong Kong, staying 4 days, then back to Belgium. We have valid passports. Do we qualify for the 72-Hour Visa-Free Transit? Do we need to arrange for anything in advance or just inform the carrier when boarding / fill in arrival / departure document on the plane?

You qualify for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. You need to inform the airlines that you want to use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai when you board the flight in Belgium.

Hi, as a follow-up question: our flights are as follows: flight 1 (on 28 april) Brussels-HK-Shanghai (with a layover of 1h50min in HK). Flight 2 (on 2 may) Shanghai - HK. Flight 3 (on 6 may) HK - Brussels. Can you confirm that we qualify for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai? Thanks.

You do not qualify for 144 hours transit without visa, because Hong Kong-Shanghai-Hong Kong is not a transit. You either need a visa in advance or you must change your flights. Otherwise you will be denied boarding in Brussels.
