UK passport. Return from Hong Kong to Uk - stopover Beijing for 72 hours

I’m returning from Hong Kong to UK via PEK. Booked 3 nights hotel in the city (70 hours maximum). I’m actually returning home (to uk) after these 3 days transit. Still qualify for this 72 hours policy? UK is my home - still categorise as 3rd country?

Yes, your case suits for the visa-free transit. Actually, you can use either 72h or 144h visa-free transit. The former allows you to stay at and visit Beijing only, the latter allows you to visit the city, Tianjin and Hebei Province.

Thanks Molly. Instead of using 72 hours visa free stay, I want to do the 144 hours one. Do I need hotel reservation in the other cities (I don't want to go a police station to register)? I only have Beijing hotel booking at the moment. Will that be a problem?

Oh, the hotel booking proof of other cities is not needed. It is ok to have the one for Beijing only and enjoy your 1454h visa-free stay. And if you go to Tianjin, don't miss the New Binhai Library. Jesus, it is so great!
