Beijing 72 hours visa

Hi, I am British. If I travel from London via Doha-Qatar to Beijing and back to Doha-Qatar back to London, am I able to use the 72 hours VOA in Beijing for an emergency business trip?

No, you cannot. Doha-Beijing-Doha obviously isn't a transit, so you don't qualify for free transit. You need a visa or you need to change your route.
