72 hour layover?

Hello! I am flying from Chicago to Tokyo in March and will be staying there for about a week. There are no direct flights back home so I was looking at doing the 72 hour layover in Beijing. I would be flying from Tokyo to Beijing and then back home to Chicago. I was going to stay at an Airbnb, but it seems like registering with the police department is quite a hassle and I might not have all the proper paperwork from the host to verify my stay (she has never heard of foreigners having to register with the police). Do all hotels register foreign guests, or are there any that you recommend that do? Thanks

All licensed hotels or hostels are required by Chinese law to register non-Chinese citizens and it would be an immigration offense if the foreigner is not registered within 24 hours. You should ask her to go with you to her local police station to fill out a registration document.
