About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can we use the 144 hour exemption if our flight from NY lands in Beijing first, then Shanghai in 2hr

We're flying to board a Princess Cruise departing Shanghai. We land in Beijing. After a 2hour layover, we fly to Shanghai to board he ship. Do we qualify for the exemption?

Hi, you cannot use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai because of your layover in Beijing. You are advised to apply for a visa for that beforehand.

You don't qualify for 144 hours, but you probably do qualify for 24 hours direct transit without a visa.
