How to apply for a Chinese visa in USA

I am an American who works in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Can I apply for a Chinese tourist visa while on vacation in USA?
Intended date of travel to China is August 19. Vacation time in USA is June-July.

Are you holding US passport? If so, it is easier for you to apply for the chinese visa in USA.

Yes I hold a US passport.
My question: Will the Chinese embassy in USA grant me a Chinese visa while in USA .... OR it would request that I must apply while in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (my place of work)?

Usually it is easier to apply for a Chinese visa in your own country than a third country. If you worry about it, you may contact the embassy in USA in advance.
