About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Would this work?

Does the free transit travel apply if i fly from germany - Bejing stay 2 days - thailand (would take a 72 hour free transit)?
and then after another week fly: thailand-Bejing-Shanghai (Hongqiaio) and then 5 days later from Shanghai (Pudong) - Germany? (would this be a 144 hour free transit?) Thank you in advance!

Germany-Beijing (72 hours)-Thailand is fine without an entry permit.
But after that, you cannot transit in both Beijing and Shanghai without a visa if you are staying longer than 24 hours in China. So you do not qualify for 144 hour free transit before your return to Germany and you need a visa before you leave Thailand if you want to travel that itinerary. But Thailand-Shanghai(144 hours)-Germany on non-stop flights would work without a visa.
