8+ Hours Layover in Shanghai for US Passport Holder

I have a layover in PVG for a little over 8 hours and would like a quick visit to the city without having to get a visa. The flight schedule is LAX>PVG>PUS (South Korea). How do I qualify for the free transit entry? Do I apply for it at the PVG airport upon arrival?

Hi, you will qualify for the free transit program in Shanghai if you travel like that, and you should inform the airlines that you want to use the free transit in Shanghai beforehand. After arriving at Shanghai airport, you can go to the transit counter to apply for the free transit. Nice trip.
