When you board the flight, you need to inform the airlines that you want to use the 72 hour free transit in Qingdao. After arriving at Qingdao airport, you can go to the transit counter to apply for the free transit by using your passport and onward tickets as well as the arrival/departure card which you complete on the airplane.
