About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Rome-Beijing- Guangzhou-Sydney. Can we use the 72h free transit?

Hi! We have got direct flight from Rome to Beijing and then leaving Beijing on the same day to Guangzhou. We will stay one night in Guangzhou and the day after we have a connection flight to Sydney. Can we use the 72h free transit? Thank you!

You cannot use the 72 hours free transit because you have two stops in China. You need a visa, unless there is less than 24 hours from your scheduled arrival in Beijing to your scheduled departure from Guangzhou.

Note that you would need a visa for the return route (Sydney-Guangzhou-Beijing-Rome), because transit including multiple stops within China is permitted at Guangzhou only when the first transit point is Beijing, and the total maximum transit time is 24 hours.
