About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Family with a 20 hour layover in Shanghai, do we need to claim our bags if we leave the airport?

We are a family of four (U.S. Citizens) traveling form Vietnam to the U.S. During our 20 hour layover in Shanghai we want to go into the city to enjoy the scene and get some sleep. Do we have to claim our luggage or can it be checked through to our final destination?

Hi, you can contact with the airlines to confirm if you need to collect your luggage. If your luggage is delivered to the final destination directly, there is no need to collect the luggage. Otherwise, you need to do that.
