About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Non-Transit Visit to Shanghai from Taiwan (UK Citizen)

I'm a UK citizen but I'm working temporarily in Taiwan for the next 3 months. I'm currently in Taiwan and would like to take a weekend trip to Shanghai, returning back to Taiwan afterward. Can I take advantage of the 72hrs free Transit program?

This would be very convenient since it seems impossible to easily get a visa to china from Taiwan.

Thanks in advance!

You obviously can't take advantage of visa-free transit if you're not in transit. You need a visa, or you need to book a compliant routing.

Hi Rob, This is mike. What exactly technically counts as a Transit? Do you need a ticket with 3+ locations on it?

Hi Rob,
Tell me if this solution sounds ok. Can I book a return ticket from Taipei to Hongkong via Shanghai so My Itinerary is TPE->PVG->HGK->TPE?

Will that work?

TPE->PVG->HGK->TPE will be fine for the free transit in Shanghai. Nice trip!
