US-Hong Kong-Shanghai-US

Hello there!

I'm traveling from the US to Hong Kong for a few days and was planning on staying in Shanghai over the weekend (Friday through Sunday). Will I qualify for the transit free policy?
For my return back into the US, can I travel via Shanghai without a visa? If not, could I return via Hong Kong to refrain from getting a visa?
