72 hour permit question......

I have an 11hr layover from Melbourne Australia in Bejing before traveling to USA and I really want to see the Great Wall of China. Do I need to apply for a visa or can I leave the airport and travel freely on the 72 hour stay permit? Thank you in advance!

Visa is no needed. You can apply for the 72-hour visa free transit when you arrive at Beijing airport and visit the Great Wall during the layover.
