About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Japan to Shanghai to Japan for visa exemption

I am a USA citizen and live in Okinawa, Japan. I will visit Shanghai for 72 hours. I will fly from Okinawa to Shanghai and back to Okinawa. Do I need a Visa if I stay for more than 144 hours?

You need a visa because Japan-China-Japan isn't a transit.
