About:China Visa Application in USA

Transit visa for US citizen flying Sydney to San Francisco via a 12 hour layover in Beijing

I am flying Sydney to San Francisco via a 12 hour layover in Beijing. With a US passport can I leave airport to see city without any visa, even a transit G?

Hi, you can enjoy 24 hr direct transit in Beijing, no visa is required then. But you need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office when you arrive at the airport, then you can leave there to explore the city.
