Can I write an invitation letter?

I am studying abroad here in China for four months and a friend wants to come visit me for a week. Can I write an invitation letter inviting them to visit me? Do I count as a legal entity or relevant person?

If you have residence permit, you can issue an invitation letter to invite your friend. Otherwise, you can’t.
