About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

what documents do you need?

Form above says Valid passport and Visa for a third country or region. we are leaving thailand on our way home to the US with a stopover in shanghai for 12 hours. we obviously have passports and flights and transit card. I won't have a visa for a third country or region since I am headed home. Should I disregard that? or can you clarify please.

The information provided above refers to the normal cases. Based on what you said, you can use the free transit in Shanghai if you travel like that. No need to worry. You can just show your passport and air tickets.

Can you not claim your luggage for a short stay. it is a long layover only. And must you inform the airline at boarding/checkin? thank you again.

You are advised to ask your airline about the luggage issue. When you board the flight, you need to inform them that you want to use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai.
