Can I take an empty water bottle/flask through security at Pudong international?

I have read and found that other international airports allow empty water bottles that can be refilled after the security check point, as long as the bottle is empty when entering. I am traveling with a 3 year old, I know water is offered in flight, but have been told nothing gets served during turbulent weather, besides that our total traveling time is 22 hours, I hope to have water with me and not have to "hunt" for it.
