About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

WAW - CAN and CAN - HAN

Hello,

I am arriving to Guangzhou (CAN) from Warsaw (WAW) using Qatar Airlines on 13rd of October at 15:30.

Thank I have a separate ticket with Jetstar from Guangzhou (CAN) to Hanoi (HAN) and the departure time is 17th of October at 03:35.

Am I good with the 72-hour-free transit or should I apply for a visa?

You should apply for a visa because your layover in Guangzhou exceeds the permitted time (if you are arriving on the 13th you will be permitted to remain only until the 16th).

But the 7. point says that when it is only several hours more than the requirements I can apply to enjoy this policy without waiting. In my situation it's only 3h and 35min after midnight. I will most probably be on October 16th already in the airport.
In other words, does the 72 hours start from 00:00 on October 14th (the following day of the entry date) and am I allowed to stay till the end of the day on October 17th? Although I only need 3h and 35 minutes of the day.

The duration of stay is 72 hours from the second day of arrival, which means that you're permitted to stay on the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th. You will not be permitted to remain a minute beyond 11:59 pm on the 16th because that obviously will exceed the 72-hour limit. If you still insist to travel like this then you won't even make it to the boarding gate of your inbound flight to Guangzhou.
